It is a sign of the country's constantly unpredictable weather that gas fires are on sale alongside garden furniture at the Kent Messenger Garden and Home show. The 40 stalls in Maidstone's Chequers Shopping Centre this week feature home and garden improvement ideas, including sheds, artificial turf, paving, ride on mowers and more eye-catchingly, clay Mexican chiminea ovens and hot spas. The volcanic clay baking ovens exhibited by Croydon based Mayantex, are an alternative to traditional barbeques and, according to director Carl Apicella attractable considerable interest. "People are using their gardens more and more and this can add a month onto the summer," he said. Shoppers has also been drawn to a large, seven-seater outdoor spa. The hot tub, which was on special offer during the show complete with a gazebo, bubbles away at 38 degrees centigrade, even in snow. Mark Janney, managing director of Ashford-based Ripple Spas, said it was the firm's first trade fair. He said: "I can wholly recommend the spas. I can honestly couldn't live without mine." |
